Third Thursday gallery art walk next week

The Third Thursday art gallery walk is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 20 at three Colby locations.

The Colby Community College Gallery in the Cultural Arts Center is the site of pieces by Garden City artists Donald Burge, Abby Killingsworth, Michael Knutson, Brian McCallum, and Robin Valenzuela, along with Carol Burnum from Ulysses. Additional works by various artists will be in the Jonas Gallery and Orange.

According to Valenzuela, creating artwork was always something she did on the side, beginning painting with oil pastels in 2008.

"By 2017, I became a full-time professional artist," she said. "Currently, my focus is using acrylics and acrylic mediums to bring out bold contemporary themes with vibrant colors and textures. For 2022 into 2023, my practice will continue with my "KansaScape" series of textured landscapes, self-designed papers used to create collage work, and abstract work."

McCallum and Knutson are art instructors at Garden City Community College. McCallum has received numerous national and international awards for his sculptural work and is also an accomplished potter. Knutson is a proficient visual artist who works primarily as a painter. He has an active national exhibition record of solo and group shows and has completed many public art commissions for institutions such as the Sternberg Museum of Natural History.

Killingsworth is a painting instructor at Garden City Arts Council and the former director of the Carnegie Art Center in Goodland.

Burge specializes in wood carving, and Burnum's strength is mixed media.

Admission is free at all locations.

Braeden Bartlett and Matt Detherage from Hays will provide live music at the CCC gallery.
