Northwest Tech Places 2nd in Region VI Championships

Northwest Tech Cross Country returns from the Region VI Championships on Friday, where they finished 2nd overall, securing their spot at the NJCAA Cross Country Championships.

Colby won the meet scoring 23 points, with all of their scoring runners in the top 10. Northwest Tech came in 2nd place with 65 points, with three runners in the top 10. Butler finished 3rd with 96 points and one runner finishing in 2nd.

Raphael Kitur led the team with a huge breakthrough race, finishing 5th place overall with a new personal best of (24:19.9). Just behind was Peter Kipkemboi Kimaiyo, finishing 6th with a time of (24:30.2).

Finishing third for the Mavericks was Brian Kiptoo in 9th place, with a personal best of (25:01.2). Next was Nathan Kipyego finishing in 11th with a personal best of (25:08.1). All mentioned runners above received both All-Conference and All-Region Honors.

Rounding out the scoring for the Mavericks was Brian Kipkosgei, finishing 35th overall with a time of (27:12.4). Taylor Kleinow finished 88th with a time of (30:39.3).

"I was happy to see everything come together," said Coach Kiptoo. "The team has worked hard to get here. We had several guys improve tremendusly this year, with many of them posting new PRs in today's race. I look forward to competing at Nationals and the challenge it presents."

The NJCAA National Cross Country and Half Marathon Championship will take place on November 12th and 15th at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Flordia.
