Colby women fall to Lamar

In their second game of the season, the Colby Community College women's basketball team fell short against the Lopes from Lamar Community College, 79-56.

Both teams struggled to protect the ball in the opening quarter, combining for 13 turnovers, with the Lopes clinging to a 15-14 lead. In the second frame, the Trojans picked up 12 more of their 34 turnovers while scoring just eight points to trail 31-22 at halftime.

Cold Colby shooting and turnovers allowed the Lopes to take a 51-36 advantage by the end of the third quarter, and the margin grew to as many as 33 in the fourth. The Trojans pushed to close the gap to 74-56, but the deficit was too large.

"They played with more energy but ran out of gas," said Colby Head Coach James Cole."

Colby's Aaliyah Chambers had 12 points, and Jayla Sample added 10 points. Ileah Beh led the team with 11 rebounds.

Lamar's top scorers both came off the bench. Jada Dupree posted 26 points, and Jolee Ortiz chipped in 13.

The Trojans get a chance for redemption and will see Lamar again on Nov. 10 in the Otero Classic at 5 pm MST.
