Northwest Tech Women's Wrestling return after competing in the Hastings Women's Open on Sunday. The Lady Mavs had two wrestlers compete in the meet, Chelsey Mendoza (101lbs) and Rosa Campos (123lbs), with Mendoza going 4-1 on the day.
Match-by-Match Breakdown (Chelsey Mendoza):
In round 1, Mendoza won over Kinsey Smith (Chadron) by Technical Fall, 10-3 (2:22). In round 2, Mendoza won over Alexandria Bruce (Iowa Central Community College) by Fall (1:48). In round 3, Mendoza won over Taylor Lindstrom (Chadron) by Decision, 10-3. In round 4, Mendoza won over Bemnet Tesfa (Hastings) by Technical Fall, 10-0 (5:11). In the 1st place match, Mendoza lost to Nicole Montojo (Iowa Western Community College) by Technical Fall, 10-0 (2:31).
"I could tell it was starting to click," said Coach Tate. "it was a good showing to start the second semester and it was nice to see Chelsey's hard work start paying off. She is beginning to understand freestyle now and has seen much growth in her skill set. I'm proud of her for staying the course and trusting our system."
Women Wrestling's next competition will be this Saturday at the York Open in York, Nebraska.
