No. 16 Edges Trojans
In a game postponed a week because of weather, 16th-ranked Butler Community College avenged an early-season loss to the Colby Trojans on Tuesday at the Colby Event Center. The Grizzlies held off a late rally for a 72-67 victory.
Colby scored the first five points of the game, but that turned out to be their only lead of the night. Butler turned the momentum and made six first-half 3-point baskets and took a 40-32 into the locker room.
The Trojans rallied in the second half to trail 48-44 with 13:35 to go, but the Grizzlies' subsequent 10-0 surge gave them their largest lead with nine and half minutes to play. The final two minutes of the game got interesting as the Trojans cut the deficit to 71-67 with 12 seconds remaining, but Butler did enough to hold on for the win.
Elijah Wood led the Trojans in scoring off the bench with 16 points. Anthony Sellars added 12, Joshua O'Garro chipped in 10, and Mike Bell rounded out the leading scorers with nine.
Rob Brown led the Grizzlies with 20 points, and Treylon Payne had 11.
The Trojans are on the road in Coffeyville on Saturday at 4 p.m. They return to the Event Center at 7:30 p.m. Monday for another weather-delayed makeup game, taking on Independence Community College.
