Track and Field Records Four Provisionals at KU

The Fort Hays State track and field teams took their talents east for the Jayhawk Classic Invitational Friday, with the Tigers compiling four NCAA DII provisional qualifying marks and taking home six first-place finishes.

Philip Landrum ran a season-best 6.85 in the prelims of the 60m dash, improving his national provisional mark by one-hundredth of one second. After sitting in third following the prelims, he finished the day fifth with a time of 6.86 in the finals.

The other provisional performance from the men's team belonged to Ryan Stanley, who finished fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of the 16-11 bar on his second attempt.

Mattie Rossi shaved .03 seconds off her provisional mark in the 60m hurdles, placing third in the finals with a time of 8.67. Lyric Holman was second in the finals of the 60m dash with a time of 7.61 after sitting in fifth coming out of the prelims.

Five other marks were converted to NCAA DII provisional qualifying standard due to the track size, including Holman in the 200m (25.26, second), Hayden Albright in the 400m (49.17, first), both Trever Medina (1:53.28, first) and Aaron Mangan (1:53.73, second) in the 800m and Regan Hodsden in the 3,000m (10:00.30, first). Hodsden's performance in the 3K places her second on the DII era FHSU performance list, less than two seconds off the school record.

Others Tigers joining Albright, Medina and Hodsden in the winners circle were Reba Mader in the morning flight of the 600m run (1:37.68), Lucas Cisneros in the morning mile flight (4:31.56) and Jaret Pfizenmaier in the 3,000m run (8:48.91).

Rossi nearly added another school record to her resume, running the third-fastest time in program history in the 600m run at 1:36.56. That time is just four-tenths of one second off the school record set almost 11 years ago by Sam Szczublewski. Mader, Taylor Savolt (1:39.32) and Chloe Stanley (1:39.69) also added their name to the DII era top 10 list at FHSU in the 600m run.

Freshman Kaitlin Lindstrom cleared the 11-2.5 bar in the pole vault, good for eighth at FHSU during the DII era in just her third collegiate competition.

Kaden Wren moved up two spots to sixth on the DII era performance chart in the 600m run, placing fifth in the faster heat with a time of 1:22.21.

Next up for the Tigers is a return to Topeka, Kan. for the Washburn Open and Multis Feb. 3-4.
