Teams Take 7th at Indoor Nationals
Three Trojans won individual titles, and the men's and women's track and field teams finished in seventh place at the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 3 and 4 at Washburn University. By the end of the meet, nine CCC student-athletes earned 12 All-America honors.
Sanele Masondo won the men's 3000-meter run by finishing in 8:11.14. Ricardo Barbosa was sixth with an 8:25.50 mark.
In the 5000m, the Trojans had a 1-2-8 finish. Masondo (14:14.91) again led the pace, followed by Kgadi Monyebodi (14:16.70) and Tom Thierry (14:37.65).
Colby also had three All-Americans in the mile. Mohammed Baghati (4:11.64) took fifth, and Barbosa (4:12.22) was seventh, just ahead of an eighth-place finish by Aled Jones (4:12.65).
On the women's side, Emily Diercks won the 3000m with a time of 9:58.94. She returned the next day to place second in the mile, finishing in 5:01.92.
Elif Poyraz also earned a national runner-up finish in the 1000m by posting a 3:04.11.
In the 800m, Tara Bert ran a 2:17.83 to grab fifth place.
