Lindsey and Henry Secure All-America Honors in Cedar Rapids

Tereus Henry andCade Lindseydominated their way to the title of NCAA DII All-Americans by reaching the semifinals at their respective weights at the 2023 NCAA DII Championships on Friday (March 10). Neither Tiger gave up an offensive point on the day, with three of the four Tiger wins serving as bonus-point victories.

By reaching the semifinals, Henry and Lindsey are guaranteed to finish no worse than sixth-place individually. The duo has compiled 20 team points so far, ranking Fort Hays State 15th in the team standings.

Fourth-seeded Lindsey started his day against Owen Butler of Indianapolis. Lindsey secured a takedown 45 seconds into the first period and accumulated over two minutes of riding time. He won the coin flip and chose the bottom position for the second period setting up an escape early in the period. Lindsey took Butler down again at the end of the period to take a 5-0 lead. In the final period, Butler was dinged for stalling twice resulting in a penalty point being rewarded to Lindsey. The Derby, Kan. native advanced to the quarterfinals after earning another point for riding time and defeating Butler by decision, 7-0.

In the quarterfinal, Lindsey was set to face fifth-seeded Anthony DesVigne of Central Oklahoma. This would be their first meeting of the season due to Lindsey being injured at the time of the MIAA dual between the Tigers and the Bronchos earlier this season. Lindsey got to work quickly once again, securing a take down early in the opening period. Soon after he secure the win when he locked DesVigne in his signature cradle and pinned him to reach the semifinals. Lindsey will face top-seeded Abner Romero of St. Cloud State in the semifinals tomorrow for a chance to wrestle for a national championship.

Henry picked up a pair of major decisions on the day, outscoring his opponents 29-4. In the opening round, Henry faced Jacob Kowalski of Findlay. The redshirt sophomore scored three takedowns in the first period taking a 6-2 lead. He went on to score three more takedowns over the following two periods to secure a 14-3 major decision.

Henry secured another major decision in his quarterfinal match against Dakoda Rodger of Pitt-Johnstown. After another early takedown in the opening period, Henry turned Rodger twice in the second period accumulating eight points by nearfall. The El Paso, Texas native received a point for stalling to start the final frame before scoring an escape almost immediately. Henry took Rodger down once more at the end of the period to claim All-American status with a 15-1 win. Henry will face second-seeded Derek Blubaugh of Indianapolis in the semifinals tomorrow.

The NCAA DII Championships will resume Saturday (March 11) at 10 a.m. with the championship semifinals and the remainder of the consolation bracket. The national championship matches will later begin at 7 p.m.
