Senator Jerry Moran addresses government funding, Israel-Hamas conflict, and WWII POW

Senator Jerry Moran, representing Kansas, has recently made a series of statements on his official Twitter account addressing government funding negotiations, the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, and the burial of a World War II soldier.

On October 6, 2025, Senator Moran commented on ongoing government funding talks, stating, "Republicans brought a non-partisan, short-term funding bill to the table to keep the government open as we work towards passing 12 appropriations bills. Senate Democrats are forcing a government shutdown over unrelated priorities, causing disruption & harm to the American".

The following day, on October 7, 2025, he marked the second anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel with the post: "It’s been two years since the barbaric Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. More than 1,400 innocent men, women & children were slaughtered, and today 40 hostages – only 20 believed to be alive – are still being held captive by Hamas. We will never forget the atrocities against".

Later that day, Senator Moran honored a fallen WWII soldier from Kansas City. He wrote, "U.S. Army Sgt. Simon Garelick from Kansas City was finally laid to rest more than 80 years after his capture & death as a POW during WWII. We honor his service & sacrifice for our country, and we are thankful he has returned home."

Senator Moran is known for his work on veterans’ affairs and national security issues. His recent comments come amid heightened partisan tensions in Congress over federal spending and in the context of ongoing global security concerns. The remembrance of U.S. Army Sgt. Simon Garelick reflects ongoing efforts by federal agencies and military organizations to identify and repatriate missing service members from past conflicts.
