U.S. Senators Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall, both representing Kansas, have introduced a Senate Resolution to honor Hays Police Sergeant Scott Heimann. Sgt. Heimann was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence call late Saturday night. He will be laid to rest in Hays on Friday.

Senator Moran commented on the loss: “The tragic loss of Sgt. Scott Heimann is deeply heartbreaking for the entire Hays community,” he said. “He embodied the very best of our small, tight-knit town, a place where people look out for their neighbors, care for those in need and protect the vulnerable. Sgt. Heimann died defending his community from harm. The men and women who serve in uniform risk their safety every day, putting their lives on the line to protect and serve both neighbors and strangers alike. Sgt. Heimann began his service with the Hays Police Department in 2016, and his watch ended far too soon. In Hays, we will remember his sacrifice, and we will honor the legacy he leaves. May God be with his wife and children, and the entire law enforcement and Hays community in this difficult time.”

Senator Marshall also spoke about Sgt. Heimann’s service: “Every day, brave men and women put on the uniform knowing the risks – Sgt. Scott Heimann was one of those heroes,” he said. “For nine years, Sgt. Heimann served with honor for the active good of Hays, Kansas, and he will be remembered for his selfless service. My heart breaks for his loved ones and the entire Hays Police Department. We pray they find comfort in the Lord as they mourn this immense loss.”

Senator Moran addressed the Senate floor today to reflect on Sgt. Heimann’s service and urged passage of the resolution honoring him.

The full text of the resolution is available online.
