U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, expressed approval following the Department of Veterans Affairs' decision to extend support for post-9/11 family caregivers. The VA announced an extension of the pause on dismissing "legacy participants" from its Family Caregiver program until September 30, 2028.
Senator Moran stated, “VA has made the right decision to extend the pause on the dismissal of legacy participants from VA’s family caregiver program for three more years. By extending this pause, post-9/11 veterans and caregivers who have been enrolled in VA’s Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers since before it was expanded to pre-9/11 veterans in 2020 can rest assured that they will continue to be supported as VA, Congress and the caregiver community keep working to make certain this program is successful for all generations of veterans and their caregivers. I appreciate Secretary Collins’ attention on this important issue, and I look forward to continuing to work with him on behalf of veterans and caregivers in Kansas and everywhere.”
The term "legacy participants" refers to those enrolled in the program before its expansion under the MISSION Act on September 30, 2020. The initial pause on dismissals began in 2022.
