U.S. Senators Jerry Moran and Richard Blumenthal have introduced a bill aimed at ensuring veterans' benefits keep up with inflation. The proposed legislation, known as the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment of 2025 (COLA) Act, seeks to adjust various benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. These include disability compensation, clothing allowances, and dependency and indemnity compensation for surviving spouses and children.
Senator Moran emphasized the importance of these adjustments, stating, "We have a commitment to care for our veterans and their families, and the annual cost-of-living adjustment makes certain VA benefits are keeping up with changes in our economy." He added that these changes will help provide financial stability by aligning with inflation and Social Security benefit increases.
Senator Blumenthal also highlighted the need for this measure amid rising costs. "Veterans deserve a fair shake amid the rising costs of housing and inflation," he said. "I’m proud to join Chairman Moran to introduce this legislation that will make sure veterans and their families’ VA benefits are keeping pace with these costs."
The bill is co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of senators including John Boozman, Patty Murray, Bill Cassidy, Bernie Sanders, Thom Tillis, Mazie Hirono, Kevin Cramer, Maggie Hassan, Tommy Tuberville, Angus King Jr., Jim Banks, Tammy Duckworth, Ruben Gallego, and Elissa Slotkin.
