U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, led a committee hearing to evaluate nominees for two key positions. The nominees under consideration were John Bartrum for Under Secretary for Health at the Department of Veterans Affairs and Jeremiah Workman for Assistant Secretary for Veterans’ Employment & Training at the Department of Labor.

Senator Moran emphasized the importance of providing veterans with timely access to health care and meaningful employment opportunities after military service. “Making certain veterans can access timely and high-quality health care, as well as meaningful and gainful employment, when they separate from military service are two of the highest priorities of this committee and certainly something that is important to our grateful nation,” said Sen. Moran.

He further acknowledged ongoing challenges faced by veterans in accessing their benefits. “While progress has been made to improve access to health care and high-paying jobs, far too many veterans in Kansas and across the country continue to struggle to take full advantage of their earned benefits from VA and DOL,” continued Sen. Moran.

The nominees, Mr. Bartrum, a Major General in the Air Force Reserve, and Mr. Workman, a decorated Marine veteran, were noted for their understanding of these challenges and their eagerness to support fellow veterans in civilian life.
