Senator Jerry Moran, U.S. Senator representing Kansas, posted a series of statements on his Twitter account addressing legislative reforms and federal policy issues between July 30 and July 31, 2025.
On July 30, Moran highlighted the significance of a bill related to tribal sovereignty in higher education by quoting Haskell alum Robert Porter: "This (bill) represents not merely administrative reform, but a fundamental recognition of tribal sovereignty & self-determination in higher education while maximizing the efficient use of federal dollars."
Later that day, Moran commented on new legislation signed by President Trump: "Great to see President Trump sign the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act into law to help more than 20,000 veterans across the country who are struggling with financial hardship avoid foreclosure on their homes." The VA Home Loan Program Reform Act is designed to provide assistance to veterans facing financial difficulties and at risk of losing their homes.
On July 31, Moran addressed concerns about federal workforce practices post-pandemic. He wrote: "Following the pandemic, overused work-from-home policies led to many USDA offices sitting mostly empty. I asked Deputy Secretary Vaden to commit to staff working in person as USDA works through its proposed reorganization plan & make certain NBAF has the people & resources it" The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has been evaluating its telework policies and office utilization since COVID-19 prompted widespread remote work among federal employees.
The referenced bill concerning tribal sovereignty reflects ongoing efforts by Congress to recognize Native American self-determination in areas such as education funding and administration. The signing of the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act aligns with previous initiatives aimed at supporting veterans' access to stable housing following periods of economic uncertainty.
