U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, has issued a statement recognizing Dan Wiley of Leavenworth, Kansas, for his election as the 2025-2026 National Commander of The American Legion.
“Congratulations to Commander Dan Wiley on being elected by his fellow Legionnaires to serve as the new National Commander of The American Legion. After serving our country in the U.S. Air Force, Dan came home to Kansas to continue to serve his brothers and sisters in arms as a part of The American Legion and his community as a lawyer and, later, a district court judge. More than 30 years since leaving the military, Mr. Wiley has demonstrated that he is a dedicated leader who is well-prepared to support the needs of our nation’s veterans and their families as National Commander. I look forward to working with him as he continues to serve veterans and military families in this new capacity,” Moran said.
Wiley’s experience within The American Legion includes holding 24 different positions from post level up to national level. He also served twice as chairman of the Leavenworth County Veterans Day Parade Committee and was master of ceremonies at the Leavenworth National Cemetery Memorial Day Observance for over 15 years.
After completing his service in the U.S. Air Force, Wiley attended the University of Kansas School of Law. In 2008, Governor Kathleen Sebelius appointed him as a Kansas State District Court Judge, where he contributed to establishing the Leavenworth County Veterans Treatment Court.
Wiley’s family is also involved with The American Legion; his wife Sonia and their two children are members.
