U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies, brought together federal, state, and local law enforcement officials in Garden City for a roundtable focused on regional challenges such as organized crime, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. The meeting included representatives from agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

During the event, the DEA announced it will increase the number of agents assigned to its Garden City Post of Duty.

Senator Moran stated: “Our Kansas law enforcement officers need the best tools and training in order to do their jobs and keep our communities safe,” adding: “As the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee which funds the Department of Justice, FBI, DEA and ATF, my goal here today is to hear directly from officers and sheriffs how Congress can better support local law enforcement and to connect federal law enforcement with Kansas departments to work in a collaborative way to best serve the southwest part of the state.”

The roundtable included participation from various local and state agencies such as the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas Highway Patrol, several county sheriff’s offices—including those from Finney, Seward, Ford, Haskell, Rush, Meade, and Lane counties—as well as police departments from Garden City, Holcomb, Dodge City, and Liberal. The Finney County Attorney’s Office was also represented.
